Getting there... onto the background

Well here we are with the final colors for Rainbow Dash and well... Rainbow Dash. I like the way that it looks at this point had a bit of fussing to do with it to get some of the highlights to work. They still may need some tweaking after the background goes it.

I think that the background for this will be a meadow scene since it seems fitting enough. I will have to be a bit creative for some of the other ponies that I will be doing. I may do random pictures with the Old and New ponies together on occasions but not certain at this point. I have ideas already for the Pinkie Pie piece and for the Applejack piece.

Update: Rainbow Dash meets Rainbow Dash

Well this is as far as I have gotten with dropping in the flats, forgot to do the original Rainbow Dash's cutie mark but I will save that for tomorrow but I figured people might want to see how it is coming along. I will more then likely only post one more Work in Progress pic after this one before finishing it off. The original Rainbow Dash still needs a lot more touch ups yet and some tail tweaking since I think I will go based off of the toy for tail color so the pink will be removed from the tail to leave only the blue and purple behind.

Rainbow Dash meets Rainbow Dash

This is a random idea that I got once while I had the urge to dig around on the net to look at different at My Little Ponies from my childhood and to see how the toys changed over the years. Now with the coming of the new My Little Ponies: Friendship is Magic series their is a pegasus pony named Rainbow Dash. Well looking through pony figures from the early 2000s and low and behold I found the original Rainbow Dash who was in fact not a pegasus. So I got a crazy idea that I finally got down on paper and here it is.

Rainbow Dash meets Rainbow Dash, now not quite sure how well this would work out, they would either love each other or hate each other. I'm thinking I may do this for all of the main ponies that are seen in Friendship is Magic if they had a prior incarnation. Eventually I will drop some color into this. If I get a chance I may put flats into this tomorrow and I'll post it here.

Jez WIP

Here is the infamous Jezna'saul, well infamous in the story that he is in at least. He has been a tough character for me to try and get an accurate drawing done of him.

So here he is in all his glory so far, well at least a head shot of him anyways. I like how it has progressed this far. Not quite sure how I'm going to handle the highlighting fully yet I will leave that for a later date.

He is one of those characters that was suppose to be a throw away and turned into something completely different and I love him for that. He's complicated, intriguing, contains a bit of mystery, and can be down right brutal. He does have a high sense of honor, though it is his code of honor that he lives by so to many it is misguided, that is to both friend and foe alike.

Myst Lumen: Now with pictures

Well here is the scan of the Myst Lumen that I had mentioned in my previous entry. Pardon the bad scan quality it was done through MS Paint since I don't have photoshop on the laptop just yet. Once I have time to sit down and do a proper scan on my desktop I shall. But with out further adiou here it is.

Quite a fun an interesting beastie I do believe. I will have to ink this one sometime next week.

Myst Lumen

Well figured I would make a little post here to say that I really have been doodling from time to time. Just finished a completed sketch of a newer creature for the world of Solaetyr, a world that I commonly refer to as Ashi's world. Hopefully I will get a chance to scan it before heading to Wheatie and I will post it here when I do.

Birdfin - Body Flats

I figured I would post this before I went to bed. Here is the lovely Birdfin with her first layer of flats before I try on drawing up the background that is needed for the picture. Her base grey may still be a little to light so I may have to adjust it before I start the shading since she is coal black.

Birdfin - Inked

Well here is the inked version of Birdfin, to replace the 'boxer sketch' that everyone had to point out to me on facebook. I'm quite pleased with the way that this turned out I will have a couple tiny line corrections to do in photoshop when I start to color but other then that I think it came out well.

I should be able to start dropping flat colors into this sketch possibly tonight even, as well as starting the work on the background. All of which I will be drawing in digitally. So hopefully it will turn out well.

Sketch Complete - Readying to Ink

Well I have completed the sketch of Birdfin, given the time two days ago now and I just took a picture last evening and forgot to post it. Now it is quarter after three in the morning and I have yet to pass out If figured I might as well post it.

I really like how it turned out and it will need a few tiny adjustments but that shouldn't be too bad. As you can see I love large fluffy wings. I have done a little bit of research for the background. I have found a few references I like.

Mei-Xing

Meet Wong Mei-Xing, the child of Sun Wukong the Monkey King.
She is my Scion character for the game that will be starting this Saturday. From what I have been told by my GM she is probably the hardest hitter in the group and she is only 5'3" She was raised by her Uncle, or the man she calls Uncle since the age of two. She lived at his martial arts school till she was old enough to move out. When I eventually finish this image maybe I will add more of Mei's background for all to see.

I know that there are some issues I have to fix but this should be a good enough idea for the rest of the group to know what she looks like.

Sketch In Progress - Updated

Well here is today's progress of Birdfin. Nearly there, have the wings to flesh out fully but needed to take a break because...aghhh feathers!

I think she is coming out fantastic. Ideas for the background consist of:

Jungle Waterfall
Mountain Top Plateau

What is Art?

Art is...

1. Doing what you want and not what others want.
2. Taking something that has been done over and over and making it new and interesting.
3. Doing what you want regardless if you get attention for it or not.
4. Breaking all the rules and still making something that looks great.
5. Making something incredible with very little resources.
6. Doing something when you don't make any money off of it (or lose money from it).
7. Knowing everything possible about the type of art you do.
8. Being able to create in different styles when the need arises.
9. Believing failure is not real, and is, in reality, just you trying different approaches to something. People's reactions do not mean something is a failure, only that they react badly to it.
10. Being open minded about style, content and ideas.
11. Seeing something in another person's point of view.
12. Doing something, then redoing it to make it better.
13. Accepting that mistakes are always there and help us learn what to change to make ourselves better.
14. Realizing that perfection is unattainable for us but, in appearance, has been obtained by others.
15. Knowing that discipline and hard work are the keys to creating good art.
16. Knowing that sometimes being spontaneous creates better work than careful planning does.
17. Knowing sometimes what you do will not be understood.
18. Experimenting with materials, styles and ways of working constantly till something amazing is born.
19. Understanding that being what you want is more important that achievments.
20. Working at night with the radio on till 6 am, then sleeping till 3 pm the next day... repeat each day.

This list of twenty items was written by my friend Tim Sparvero and I find this list to be very inspirational to me so I felt it needed to be shared.

Sketch In Progress

Joined a website a bit ago and there is a contest going for one of the members there for her personal character Birdfin. I haven't been drawing much lately and I started this sketch just over a week ago because I love the character design.

I mean what is more fun then drawing a winged Raptor right? Well I have to say I did fix her brow and her feet since I was dumb enough to not pay enough attention to the foot structure when I started. Now the feet are much more raptor-y. I'm hoping to have this image finished and inked today. Maybe even the color flats thrown in. I have an idea for the background but that may have to just be thrown in in photoshop since I don't know if I feel like drawing it in by hand and inking it but we'll see.

Birdfin's color scheme:

Blue scleara eyes
Silver facial markings and belly
Black body
Golden wings

Should be interesting to color up. For those that know me they know I really dislike coloring yellow/golden things so this will be a challenge yet again but I am going to tackle it with gusto. Hey maybe a finished piece for my gallery right!

Slythorian Color Progress

Well I have been working a little on this picture again to see where it goes, started to push the shadows a bit more and still trying to figure out the tree. It's getting there slowly but at least it is progressing.

I am not sure fully what I am going to do with the rest of the background, might try to draw a bit of draping foliage or moss but I'm not quite sure yet.

Color WIP

Well this morning I thought I would putz around a bit while waiting for the roomie to get back up. Told her better to go to a movie in the afternoon so she could get more sleep. So I decided I would pop open good old Photoshop because I had the urge to color and see what happened. This is the result.

I had a hard time figuring out at first what I wanted to work on. Couldn't find my notes for Synergy so I dug around to see what I might have had started and this guy is who I found. This is a male Slythorian from one of my stories. The drawing itself is several years old but I figured what the heck its not too bad of a drawing I might as well color it to see if I can get back into the groove. It's still got a long way to go and the tree looks like crap still but hopefully I'll figure something out for that. If nothing else it gives me something to poke at and experiment with.

Suuvaki Prelim

Just thought I would post up a little prelim picture I sketched up of a new race that I am working on called the Suuvaki.
