Mei-Xing

Meet Wong Mei-Xing, the child of Sun Wukong the Monkey King.
She is my Scion character for the game that will be starting this Saturday. From what I have been told by my GM she is probably the hardest hitter in the group and she is only 5'3" She was raised by her Uncle, or the man she calls Uncle since the age of two. She lived at his martial arts school till she was old enough to move out. When I eventually finish this image maybe I will add more of Mei's background for all to see.

I know that there are some issues I have to fix but this should be a good enough idea for the rest of the group to know what she looks like.

Sketch In Progress - Updated

Well here is today's progress of Birdfin. Nearly there, have the wings to flesh out fully but needed to take a break because...aghhh feathers!

I think she is coming out fantastic. Ideas for the background consist of:

Jungle Waterfall
Mountain Top Plateau

What is Art?

Art is...

1. Doing what you want and not what others want.
2. Taking something that has been done over and over and making it new and interesting.
3. Doing what you want regardless if you get attention for it or not.
4. Breaking all the rules and still making something that looks great.
5. Making something incredible with very little resources.
6. Doing something when you don't make any money off of it (or lose money from it).
7. Knowing everything possible about the type of art you do.
8. Being able to create in different styles when the need arises.
9. Believing failure is not real, and is, in reality, just you trying different approaches to something. People's reactions do not mean something is a failure, only that they react badly to it.
10. Being open minded about style, content and ideas.
11. Seeing something in another person's point of view.
12. Doing something, then redoing it to make it better.
13. Accepting that mistakes are always there and help us learn what to change to make ourselves better.
14. Realizing that perfection is unattainable for us but, in appearance, has been obtained by others.
15. Knowing that discipline and hard work are the keys to creating good art.
16. Knowing that sometimes being spontaneous creates better work than careful planning does.
17. Knowing sometimes what you do will not be understood.
18. Experimenting with materials, styles and ways of working constantly till something amazing is born.
19. Understanding that being what you want is more important that achievments.
20. Working at night with the radio on till 6 am, then sleeping till 3 pm the next day... repeat each day.

This list of twenty items was written by my friend Tim Sparvero and I find this list to be very inspirational to me so I felt it needed to be shared.

Sketch In Progress

Joined a website a bit ago and there is a contest going for one of the members there for her personal character Birdfin. I haven't been drawing much lately and I started this sketch just over a week ago because I love the character design.

I mean what is more fun then drawing a winged Raptor right? Well I have to say I did fix her brow and her feet since I was dumb enough to not pay enough attention to the foot structure when I started. Now the feet are much more raptor-y. I'm hoping to have this image finished and inked today. Maybe even the color flats thrown in. I have an idea for the background but that may have to just be thrown in in photoshop since I don't know if I feel like drawing it in by hand and inking it but we'll see.

Birdfin's color scheme:

Blue scleara eyes
Silver facial markings and belly
Black body
Golden wings

Should be interesting to color up. For those that know me they know I really dislike coloring yellow/golden things so this will be a challenge yet again but I am going to tackle it with gusto. Hey maybe a finished piece for my gallery right!
